History
Gary Thietten, RN BSN, started his own home health agency, Idaho Home Health and Hospice, in 1977. Since then, Gary has become not only a regional home care provider, but is also recognized by many of his peers as "the one to go to when you need home care information from a peer." Always active and visible at the State and National levels, he has impacted home health policy decisions over the course of his home care career.
In the 1980's , while working in connection with the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC), Gary's home health agency was instrumental in providing the case for a class action suit filed by NAHC's Center for Health Care Law Bill Dombi, Esq. The effort was successful in recovering millions for home health agencies across America.
Over the years, Gary has expanded his role in the home health arena by teaching and training other agencies to file Medicare appeals for claim denials. Recently he assisted in overturning the majority of monies retrieved in post-payment Medicare fraud and abuse and/or Office of the Inspector General audits. His expertise has been acquired from not only from both operating his own home care programs since 1977, but also his ability to understand the myriad of home care regulations and policies. Those who read the NAHC list-serve know Gary as one who has a timely and precise answer to many of the questions list serve users post. Plus, he backs up his comments with supporting regulation and/or policy.
Recently, Gary and IHHH"s Director of Clinical Operatons, Nancy Strand, have been teaching and assisting home health agencies' administration and staff to manage the Prospective Payment System and its numerous intricacies. Working with NAHC's Director of Regulatory Affairs, Mary St. Pierre, he assisted in a Medicare software change. This change allowed home health claims to be corrected on-line without canceling the claim, re-submitting a RAP, and then submitting a final claim. This system change alone significantly reduced the accounts receivable days for home health providers.

Testimonial
"Following our attendance at a NAHC seminar presentation by Gary Thietten and Nancy Strand, we recognized we needed help with Medicare Revenue recovery. After attending that seminar, we realized since the beginning of PPS we were not retrieving the monies due our small hospital based agency. With just two days of on-site training and hands-on claims recovery experience, we recovered approximately $85,000 in just two weeks. And, unlike many of the firms contacting us to assist with revenue recovery, we paid IHHH only a per diem and a travel expense consulting fee. Therefore, we kept the majority of the monies recovered by not paying a percentage."
